Professor Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett, Chief Curator of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, was elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.


It is a great honour – among the members of the Academy were Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, Akira Kurosawa and Nelson Mandela.

The Academy, established in 1780, aims at "cultivating all the fields within the Arts and Sciences that may contribute to the development of interests, respect, dignity and happiness of all free, independent and righteous people."

The official ceremony of appointing new members will take place on 7 October 2017 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
