Hanukkah with little Mayer – a family event for the finissage of the temporary exhibition
We invite you to celebrate the Hanukkah holiday with us! Let’s meet at POLIN Museum at this joyous time, filled with the smell of donuts and warm candlelight.

This year, we will celebrate Hanukkah together with little Mayer, the protagonist of the temporary exhibition that is about to close. In one of the paintings displayed in the exhibition, an entire family is seated at the table, singing Hanukkah songs and playing dreidl.
We will get transported into little Mayer’s world—we will play games, eat donuts and admire colorful illuminations in the Museum’s main hall, wishing one another "Happy Hannukah!". You surely don’t want to miss it!
Program of activities for families, 15 December (Sunday)
A Hanukkah game

Anyone who loves challenges, solving puzzles, arts and movement workshops and, above all, having fun should definitely take part in the Hanukkah game.
You will face eight tasks that will introduce you to Hanukkah customs and symbols, teach you how to play dreidl, help you produce your own lanterns, and reveal the secrets of paintings. A little boy named Mayer, the protagonist of our temporary exhibition, will accompany you in your preparations for the Hanukkah celebration. There will also be music and delicious donuts. At the end, surprise prizes will await you!

Join a family guided tour of the temporary exhibition with a museum guide and explore the town of Opatów and the paintings of Mayer Kirshenblatt. Immerse yourself in his art world, learn about the origins of Hanukkah, and discover its customs and symbols. Together, we’ll search for the painting where Mayer captured a family celebration. We invite you to a family audio-guided tour of our temporary exhibition dedicated to the town of Opatów and the paintings of Mayer Kirshenblatt. The narrative for the special family tour was written by Justyna Bednarek, a renowned children books’ author.
You will embark on a journey through a former Jewish town depicted in twelve paintings. Little Mayer will be your guide—a curious, mischievous, and witty boy clad in a blue jacket. Through his eyes, you will discover the customs related to Jewish holidays, family traditions, and pre-war children’s games. Together, we will immerse ourselves in memories, images, and sounds.
Towards the end of the tour with Mayer, we will invite you to join in more fun activities. You will have an opportunity to assemble an image made of magnetic puzzles and play with a special educational cube. There will also be a creative activity—why not try your hand at being a painter?

The voice of Wojciech Malajkat will guide you in your journey through the one thousand years of the history of Polish Jews. A lot of surprises and tasks will await you along the way. You will hear stories from magnates’ court and from artisanal workshops, as well as conversations overheard in the streets of Jewish towns. You will familiarize yourself with stories of shared work, friendship, Jewish holidays and customs.
