SINGER'S WARSAW: Big Beat in Muranów

On August 24, as a part of The Jewish Culture Festival: Singer's Warsaw, we invite you to join us for a picnic and open air concerts dedicated to Polish Jewish beat bands of the sixties. Ania Rusowicz will be the star of the evening.

Place: Willy Brandt Sq. (intersection of Karmelicka and Anielewicza St.).

Deckchairs will be put out in the square from 2 p.m. There will also be catering.

Starting at 2 p.m.

Babel Club – reconstruction of a Socio-Cultural Association of Jews club from the 1960s, and inside: a meeting with members of the TSKŻ, stories of youth clubs from all over Poland, archival photographs, board games and other attractions. In keeping with the name of the club, we will also learn words in different languages (Yiddish, Hebrew, Esperanto and others) which will be added onto a special board, creating a multilingual dictionary (linguists – please join us!).

For children there will be workshops on music, and beat music in particular. We will recreate a sixties discotheque – children will make cardboard figures that we will set up on a table serving as our dance floor out of newspapers, posters and photographs. At 2 p.m. we will announce a contest for the best beat music poster using any technique (collage, painting, etc.) – all submissions will be put up on easels. A vote will then be held to determine the winner. Children will also be able to assemble and paint a model of the Gwoździec synagogue and fill in coloring pages featuring design elements of the ceiling. We will combine this with a mini-narrative about the Gwoździec project. There will also be a photo booth and make-up stall where parents and children will be able to get themselves styled and take photographs.

Participants of the Polish Intercultural Youth Encounters (Polish-Israeli student exchange) will prepare stalls with presentations of different faces of modern-day Israel (cuisine, film, music, language, etc.).

5.30 p.m. – 6 p.m. Meeting with Ryszard Rozenberg, a member of the band Śliwki.

Concerts:

4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Muzyka końca lata (Music for the End of Summer).

6.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m. The Rookles.

8 p.m. – 9 p.m. Ania Rusowicz, performing songs from her album Mój Big-Bit (My Big Beat) as well as number of specially prepared songs from the repertoire of Śliwki.

9 p.m. – 10 p.m. Big beat dance party on the lawn.

See you at the picnic!
