Józef Sigalin's cigarette case with the image of the East–West Route in Warsaw – USD 125

The cigarette case is a souvenir of Józef Sigalin (1909-1983), an architect and urban planner, one of the co-founders of the Warsaw Reconstruction Office constituted in 1945 to implement the post-war reconstruction of the destroyed capital.

The cigarette case is a gift from Zygmunt Stępiński, together with whom Sigalin conducted one of the most important projects in his career – the construction of the East-West Route. The project is still considered one of the most important symbols of post-war Warsaw – a city rising from the rubble and entering modernity. The Route is depicted on the cigarette case along with the dates of its construction.
