GEOP Fellowship for Ukrainian Scholars at Risk
Recognizing the need for urgent support of Ukrainian scholars in the face of the Russian aggression, POLIN Museum is offering one 12-month GEOP fellowship for Ukrainian scholars at risk.
The fellow is: Dr. Mychaylo Zubar, head of the Exhibition Department, co-author of the core exhibition at Taras Shevchenko State Museum in Kyiv, and of the concept for the Museum reconstruction.
Dr Zubar is a specialist in the field of museology, with a particular focus on the establishment and development of modern Polish narrative museums. His research interests include the history of the emergence and development of narrative museums, their methods of communicating with the community and the social role of modern narrative museums, especially in preserving and shaping social memory. The topic of his doctoral thesis was the emergence and functioning of Polish narrative museums in the context of social changes in the second half of the 20th and in the early 21st centuries. Currently, Dr. Zubar is completing work on a monograph on modern Polish narrative museums and the principles behind their establishment and functioning.
Dr Zubar is the author of the concepts and curator of museum and exhibition projects, among others: "Port of Cultures" (Mariupol, Ukraine), "Special Armed Forces Museum" (Kropywnycki, Ukraine), "Shevchenko in the Urban Lingua" (Kyiv, Ukraine), "Shevchenko—the Poet" (Kyiv, Ukraine), "Slava Ukraini. The Symbols of Independence" (Gdańsk, Poland).
Dr Zubar is a laureate of the "Gaude Polonia" Minister of Culture and National Heritage Grant Program.
As part of his GEOP fellowship for Ukrainian scholars at risk , Dr Mychaylo Zubar will carry out research on the impact of narrative museums on the methods of communications in the Jewish museums in Eastern Europe, as well as on the changes in the ways the museums function and their contribution to the shaping of collective memory and the perception of historic multi-nationality.

Our Global Education Outreach Program supports research fellowships that are open to scholars and academics studying any aspect of Eastern European Jewry in any discipline, including history, language and literature, cultural studies, music, art history, museology, and memory studies, among others.
The Ukrainian Scholars at Risk Fellowship is established by the Global Education Outreach Program (GEOP) to provide support to Ukrainian scholars who, looking for safety for themselves and their families, left their homes due to the war, and to support those who stayed in Ukraine during the war and allow them and their families to be in safety to continue their work. As the POLIN Museum is a cultural and research institution promoting the history and culture of Polish Jewry, its fellowships are open to scholars/academics with a PhD or its equivalent studying any area related to Eastern European Jews, such as history, cultural studies, music, art history, public history, museology, memory studies or related fields.
The GEOP Fellowship for Ukrainian Scholars at Risk is offered by POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in cooperation with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation with the support of private donors from around the world.
