The POLIN Museum invites you to participate in a pilot workshop networking people from the Muslim and Jewish communities in Poland! In a calm, safe and open space, we want to talk about what can unite us and how we can work together to find solutions for a better future.

  • Call for applications is closed
  • Classes will be conducted in Polish and English

"Nur" in Arabic and Hebrew means "light". In the difficult time after the pandemic and the ongoing violence and armed conflicts, we want to develop paths of interaction together.

When?

The series of meetings includes:

  • 1 online meeting December 15 (Thursday), 6:30 PM-8:00 PM
  • 3 in-person meetings December 17-19 (Saturday, after 4:00 PM – Monday, until 3:00 PM)
  • follow-up meetings on dates selected by the participants.

During the classes in Warsaw we provide food, and for those outside Warsaw we organize accommodation and reimburse costs to and from Warsaw.

Who are invited to join the programme?

We invite activists working with Jewish and Muslim communities in Poland over the age of 26 to join the programme.Apply if you feel part of a Muslim or Jewish faith community or simply identify with one of them. You do not have to be formally part of a religious association or practice your faith in a formalised way. Fluency in Polish or English is also a requirement for participation.

What do we offer?

Those taking part in the workshop will take part in interesting, engaging and developing activities, meet other activists working on behalf of Jewish and Muslim communities. They will be influential in developing recommendations for future activities of the Museum and partner organisations and will form a group of mutually supportive male and female leaders. Those taking part in the workshop will receive a certificate of participation.

Program

In a series of online and in-person meetings we will meet to discuss possible areas of cooperation between the Jewish and Muslim communities living in Poland. Together we want to look at the challenges facing the religious communities, including Islamophobia and anti-Semitism, and develop effective solutions and recommendations for future activities of the Museum and partner organisations in the field of Jewish-Muslim cooperation.

The workshop activities will be led by prominent experts and specialistst, among others:

Rabbi Rebecca Lillian

Karol Wilczyński, Ph.D. – Educator, Journalist and Communication Strategist. Provides global education, media and social media training. He supports victims of Islamophobia and works on combating Islamophobia in social and media spaces. For the past 8 years he has been involved in work with people on the move and forced migration. Currently he lectures on Migration, Islamophobia and Politics of Fear at the Jagiellonian University, Kraków.

Đermana Kurić – international adviser, consultant, activist, and researcher on addressing hate, exclusion, and discrimination, Sarajevo.

Osman Örs – theological advisor, imam at House of One Foundation Berlin.

This is the first pilot project of its kind, through which we believe that a new, strong community of mutually supportive activists from both communities will emerge in Poland.
