Call for Participants – Choreographic Project "How We Meet?"
We invite you to take part in a mini-series of choreographic workshops with choreographer/dancer Adi Weinberg, based on the movements of "Undercurrents", her new site-specific dance piece created at POLIN Museum. The piece, a duet, explores the discovery of forgotten, buried stories that want to be unearthed/come into the light. How, together, can we connect with them, how can we let the body be a bridge between memory and the present? How, with one another, can we stand at an intersection of different times, holding on to both stories—the one from the past and the one from the present—in the here and now.
During the workshops we will focus on the theme of togetherness in contemporary times, asking the question of "How We Meet?" Through a movement lab, we will explore a safe space for connecting and being attentive to one another as a response to today’s divided world, marked by aggression and violence. We will learn simple choreographic moves and work with basic exercises, exploring how to really be with one another, to tune our awareness and attentiveness, how to deepen the ability to listen to our bodies, to be present and in connection with ourselves, with our surroundings and with each other. How to build a collective body of awareness—connect to ourselves, to others, with care for our shared future.
These explorations will culminate in a collective choreographic activity titled "How We Meet?", taking place on September 14 as part of a series of anti-war, anti-violence actions presented at the closing event of the "1945. Not the End, Not the Beginning" exhibition. The action will enter into a dialogue with the space surrounding POLIN Museum, reshaping and transforming it. The event will begin on the grassy area behind the Museum; the audience and passers-by will then be guided towards the building’s interior.
The movement will be simple and accessible, even for persons without any dance experience. What’s required is your presence, openness to being part of a process, and the ability to move on your knees (details below).
Workshops dates:
- August 31 (Sunday), 10:30AM–2:30PM (with a break)
- September 7 (Sunday), 6PM – Join us for the “Undercurrents” performance
- September 11 (Thursday), 6PM–9PM
- September 13 (Saturday), 10:30AM–2:30PM (with a break)
- September 14 (Sunday), 11AM–2PM, with the final choreographic action at 3PM
Who can join?
Anyone aged 16+, with or without dance experience. All you need is a desire to connect with your body and an openness to this project. Participants should be able to move on their knees for short periods. We encourage you to bring knee pads (they don’t have to be of a professional type) — just something soft in case you need support. Participants must commit to attending all sessions and arriving on time. The workshops will be conducted in English.
Call for Participants closed, thank you for your interest!
