The Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Warsaw have the pleasure of inviting you to a special evening devoted to the memory of the Jews of Vilnius on December 14, 2013.

2013 was declared Year of the Vilnius Ghetto in Lithuania. Before the Second World War, Vilnius was one of the most important centers of Jewish culture, with Jews constituting about one third of the city’s population. This year marks the 70^th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilnius Ghetto, established in 1941, and functioning until September 1943. A series of commemorative events has already been held in Vilnius to mark this anniversary.

Program:

• 6.00 PM panel discussion. Participants:
  Prof. Irena Veisaite, theater and German literature scholar, human rights activist, laureate of the Goethe Medal (2012) for her contribution to reconciliation and dialogue with Germany; survivor of the Kaunas Ghetto.
  Fania Brancovskaja, survivor of the Vilnius Ghetto.

During the discussion we will show fragments of documentary films presenting the stories of survivors of the Vilnius Ghetto, including Fania’s Vilnius, based on the memoirs of Fania Brancovskaja.  
An exhibition of reproductions of posters from the Vilnius Ghetto will also be on display in the foyer on the first floor, courtesy of the Embassy of Lithuania.
