Politics of History—What Does it Stand For?

Can collective memory be constructed in dissociation from politics? Is there such a things as a grassroots politics of memory, or can it only be pursued by entities like states? What is the role of international contexts in remembering a nation? These reflections will be set against the background of twentieth-century attempts to come to terms with the history of East and Central European countries, particularly after the fall of Communism.</p>
<p>The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Jan Kubik from University College London, author of numerous publications in the field of political science and cultural anthropology. Prof. Kubik specializes in memory politics in post-communist countries.</p>
