Rotating Gallery: Boundary Questions – A space for presenting Jewish artists
In 2024, POLIN Museum launched the first edition of its Rotating Gallery under the title We Are Here. The Gallery amplified the voices of contemporary Jewish artists by creating a vibrant, polyphonic space for their work and perspectives. This year, we continue that idea in a new gallery while maintaining our focus on the intercultural present—co-created and experienced by Jewish people—with all its contemporary challenges.

This time, we gather around the notion of "boundary questions". We do not mean boundaries in the sense of geographical or historical borders, but rather the pressing questions and events that contemporary artists confront—often difficult, unsettling, and uncomfortable. Here, a boundary is understood as something that may define difference and distinctiveness, but also as a zone of encounter—a shared space for reflection and mutual transformation. It is also a space for potential pause and contemplation—of the self, of another person, and ultimately of broader groups and communities.
We seek to create a sensitivity lab by asking how, in today’s world—marked by division and violence—we might build and explore spaces of encounter. How we might seek alternative ways of responding to social polarization while creating room for voices that are less often heard. It is also a conversation about the asymmetries of voices and visibility—who speaks, who is able to speak, with what consequences, and on whose behalf. Equally, it asks who defines boundaries—whether real or imagined social divisions—and how art can help us challenge and transcend them.
The Rotating Gallery presents works by individual artists and artistic collectives in a series of successive presentations. Each takes the form of a distinct installation and/or performative intervention. Each installation remains on view for approximately four weeks.
