"Ushpizin"
"Ushpizin", dir. Gidi Dar, 2004
Religious Jews are preparing for the holiday of Sukkot. Moshe and his wife build a tent in which one traditionally receives guests. But the guests who arrive are not those the couple was expecting – two escaped convicts, friends of Moshe’s from a murky past that he would rather not remember. A touching and comic story about the clash of different worlds, secularism and religiousness.
"Individual and Community. Images of Jewish Orthodoxy" film cycle
We will use the period of Christian and Jewish holidays to reflect on the conflict between religious precepts and individual desires – as portrayed in audacious Israeli films.
