Contemporary music. What is it like? Where is it going? Who is creating it? Where can one listen to it? Each of these questions reflects a different focus, although a common theme runs through them all. Come listen and talk about the contemporary music scene on September 21, during the panel discussion “Polska. Music. NOW”.

PANEL I
10.00 AM – 12.30 PM

  • Prof. Dr. Hab. Simone Heilgendorff (Germany) – musicologist, philosopher and psychologist. Graduate of Humboldt University, Berlin, amongst others. Violinist with the Kairos Quartett
  • Prof. Adrian Thomas (United Kingdom) – professor and conductor, lecturer at the Cardiff University School of Music, specializing in Polish music
  • Joel Sachs (United States) – pianist and conductor, lecturer at the Julliard School, specializing in new music
  • Tadeusz Wielecki (Poland) – Polish bassist and composer, since 1999 artistic director of the Warsaw Autumn Festival


PANEL II
1.30 PM – 4.00 PM

  • Harry Lehmann (Germany) – German philosopher, a proponent of musical thought. His interest areas include the digital revolution and its impact in music.
  • Thomas Oesterdiekhoff (Germany) – head of the German ensemble musikFabrik
  • Clement Power (United Kingdom) – British conductor who often reaches for contemporary music, also Polish music. He has worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ensemble InterContemporain (Paris), amongst others.
  • Antonio Jorge Pacheco (Portugal) – artistic director of the Casa da Musica in Porto, one of the largest and most prestigious concert halls in the world.
  • Olga Smetanova (Slovakia) – director of the Hudobne Centrum, a Slovak music center. Involved in documenting, promoting and publishing works about contemporary music, amongst others.

Free admission.
No prior registration or confirmation of attendance on Facebook is required.

The discussion will be in English – simultaneous translation into Polish will be provided.

The Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music is the only Polish festival of international rank and renown dedicated to contemporary music, for many years the only festival of this kind in Central and Eastern Europe. The Museum of the History of Polish Jews is proud to host events that are part of the 56th edition of the festival.
