POLIN Music Festival: Bar Avni

Bar Avni, recently winner of the 2nd prize and orchestra prize of the 10th Fitelberg conducting competition in Poland (November 2017), was born in 1989 in Israel. She was recently announced as the assistant conductor under GMD Peter Kuhn for the Bergische Symphoniker for its upcoming season.
Avni is invited to participate the Coming masterclass with the Maestra Marin Alsop and the BBC concert orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall in London. In the winter of 2017/18, Bar will be awarded her M.A. in Orchestral Conducting from the class of Maestro Ulrich Windfuhr in the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Germany. Previously Ms. Avni studied for two years with Maestro Martin Sieghart in the KUG(Kunst Universität Graz), Austria.
Ms. Avni was recently invited to be the conductor on a tour consisting of twentyfive concerts with the Neu Philharmonie Hamburg in China in February 2018. In October 2017, she conducted an orchestra for a studio recording production with premieres and old pieces by the composer Ralph Symann. Ms. Avni, after auditioning, won an audition to conduct the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra youth series. Dates to be announced. In January 2017, Ms. Avni started teaching conducting for composers at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. In the 2017-18 season, she expends her teaching and joins the Menschmusik Schule in Hamburg as a conducting teacher.
In April 2017 Ms. Avni conducted her debut with the Ensemble Resonanz (Ensemble in residence of the Elbphilharmonie) in Hamburg. She is also continuously working with the Hamburger Contemporary Music Ensemble Volans.
Ms. Avni earned her B.A. in orchestral conducting from the Buchman– Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, Israel. While at the university, she attended the class of Maestro Yoav Talmi. In addition, Ms. Avni had academic studies in Percussion, from the class of the former principle percussionist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Professor Alon Bor.
Ms. Avni has been the recipient of the America- Israel Scholarship Foundation, David Herzog Scholarship in Graz, DAAD Scholarships, Johannes Brahms Scholarship, Gabriele und JohanneClassen-Stiftung in Hamburg, and more.
