Azrieli Foundation Publication Grant
POLIN Museum, in cooperation with the Azrieli Foundation of Canada and Polish Center for Holocaust Research at the Polish Academy of Sciences, launches a four-year publication and educational project.
The Azrieli Foundation Publication Grant will support the translation into Polish and publication of five books in the Azrieli Foundation's Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Series, as well as “They Called Me Mayer July: Painted Memories of a Jewish Childhood in Poland Before the Holocaust” by Mayer Kirshenblatt. The project includes an educational program designed for teachers interested in using these volumes in their classes.
The mission of Azrieli philanthropy is to improve the lives of present and future generations through Education, Research, Healthcare and the Arts mainly in Canada and Israel. The foundation has eight priority funding areas: Education, Fellowships, Community, Holocaust Education & Legacy, Science, Research & Healthcare, Neurodevelopment, Architecture, Design & Engineering, and Music & Arts. In addition to strategic philanthropic investments in organizations large and small, the foundation operates a number of programs including the Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program: memoirs.azrielifoundation.org
From among several dozen titles published so far by the Foundation, the Museum will compile and publish in Polish memoirs of Rbbi Pinchas Hirschprung, Arthur Ney, Pinchas Gutter, Rachel Lisogurski & Chana Broder, Bronia and Joseph Beker.
The book by Mayer Kirshenblatt is out of series, and it is an intimate, humorous record - in both words and images - of Jewish life in a Polish town before World War II as seen through the eyes of an inquisitive boy.
