As we are not able to meet in person due to the pandemic, POLIN Museum would like to take you on a virtual tour of the most beautiful and important places in Polish-Jewish history. We have produced five short films especially for you. They may serve as an invitation to visit Poland, once travelling is safe again.
Green Warsaw (Release date: 3 November)
Franciszek Bojańczyk will show you where Menachem Begin used to study, where you can relax on Leśmian’s Meadow, and where you can listen to the concerts of Chopin’s music that are open to the public.
The beginnings of Polish-Jewish history (Release date: 10 November)
There is no Polish history without Jews, as there is no Jewish history without Poles. You will travel in time with our guide Damian Pisarski, back to the era of Ibrahim Ibn Ya’akov. You will also visit the synagogue from Gwoździec reproduced at POLIN Museum.
Warsaw: the city of contrasts (Release date: 17 November)
In Warsaw, the shadow cast by a modern skyscraper envelops the synagogue dating back to more than a century ago. Here, grey blends with vivid colours, and Polish culture blends with the Jewish one. Katarzyna Jankowska and Damian Pisarski will introduce you to the city of contrasts.
The Flavours of Praga (Release date: 24 November)
Agnieszka Kuś will take you on a tour of Praga, the once industrial district of Warsaw, a home to many minorities and cultures. You will visit one of the typical pre-war courtyards and find out where to try the local delicacy - the cult Warsaw dumplings called pyzy.
From interwar Poland to present-day Israel (Release date: 1 December)
In Marta Eichelberger-Jankowska’s film you will travel in time to interwar Poland. You will listen to Polish-Jewish tango, find out how Habima theatre was founded, and watch snippets of the legendary movie The Dybbuk, the first full-length feature film produced in Poland to be shot entirely in Yiddish.
