"History, legend. The stories of the beginnings" - a lecture
We invite you to a lecture by Professor Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett on the legend of Polin, concerning the arrival of Jews to Poland, which is the focus of the first gallery of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews' permanent exhibition. During the lecture, we will analyse different versions of the legend and other stories of the beginnings that have functioned in the Jewish culture of other countries.
Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett - a university professor and member of the Advisory Committee at the New York University's museum studies. She is the author of a number of publications, including They Called Me Mayer July: Painted Memories of a Jewish Childhood in Poland Before the Holocaust, an award-winning book written together with her father Mayer and Writing a Modern Jewish History: Essays in Honor of Salo W. Baron, for which she won the National Jewish Book Award in 2006. Her academic and research work focuses on Jewish culture and heritage, museum studies and tourism. Prof. Kirshenblatt-Gimblett has also been honoured with a number of prestigious distinctions, including the Foundation for Jewish Culture award for lifetime achievement.
