Lectures on the Core Exhibition
On January 21, 2013, at 6.00 PM, we invite you to the next meeting in the Lectures on the Core Exhibition series at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
Prof. Igor Kąkolewski will deliver a lecture entitled Poland – A Jewish Paradise? On the Question Marks in the Golden Age Gallery.
Tolerance or oppression? A Golden Age or a time of darkness? Paradise or the very opposite? The history of Polish Jews in the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century is full of question marks. They appear also in the Paradisus Iudaeorum gallery devoted to this period. Prof. Igor Kąkolewski will talk about the questions that the authors of the gallery asked themselves, and about the answers, which exceed all the stereotypes.
Prof. Igor Kąkolewski (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn), co-author of the Paradisus Iudaeorum gallery, is a historian specializing in modern Polish and European history, the history of Polish-German-Jewish relations from the 16th until the 20th century, the culture of memory and the phenomenon of multiculturalism.
