Revolution of photography – photography as revolution. Jewish topics in photography before and after 1917
POLIN Museum organized an academic session at the ASEEES convention that took place on 8-12 November 2017 in Chicago. The session was organized within the GEOP project framework. Debate titled Revolution of photography – photography as revolution. Jewish topics in photography before and after 1917 was held on 10 November.
Dr Artur Markowski, Dr Michał Trębacz and Prof. Konrad Zieliński delivered papers that were commented on by Prof. Iwona Kurz. The panel, moderated by Prof. Antony Polonsky, concerned the role of photography in the Jewish world of social imagery. The issues of the cannon and aesthetics of the photographic art, as well as photography’s role in the process of constructing Jewish identity from the late 19th c. up to the end of WW2 were given particular attention.
