Shechita-Halal. About ritual slaughter
Join us for a panel discussion on ritual slaughter. The latest vote in the Polish parliament and the voting results sparked an intense debate about minority rights, religious rights, xenophobia, economics and politics.
There are many arguments, both for and against. Both sides have many opponents and many supporters. We would like to provide a space in which all concerned parties can make their case.
Moderator: Adam Szostkiewicz

Issues that we would like to address in the panel discussion:
- The meaning of ritual slaughter for Jews and Muslims; what does the Torah and the Quran say about ritual slaughter?
- Ritual slaughter as a part of religious tradition; does the ban on ritual slaughter restrict religious freedom?
- Are there limits to religious rites, and if so, what are they?
- Do we have the right to morally judge religious rites, or do they remain out of the realm of moral judgment because they are sanctified by being religious?
- Do animals suffer more or less during ritual slaughter?
- What are the possible solutions? Are there any limits of compromise, if so what are they?
- What does law (religious, European) say about ritual slaughter?
- Does the ban on ritual slaughter have an effect on the economy, politics?
- The results of the vote in the Polish Parliament – what do the results mean?
