The summary of the project "Information vs manipulation – how to stand up against propaganda?"

Three events – international meetings of youth, teachers and educators from the partner countries – have been carried out within the project Information vs manipulation – how to stand up against propaganda?. The project was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme "Europe for Citizens".

Introduction to the project

The aim of the event was the introduction to the subject of the project - the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and the protests in Poland and Czechoslovakia in 1968, the mechanisms of propaganda, its role in 1956 and 1968, and today. Participants took part in historical workshops and journalistic workshops, during which they visited Keleti Palyudvar railway station and learned about the refugees' stories from 2015. The meeting was aimed to prepare young people for further work in schools on their own projects.

The event involved 59 citizens, including 12 participants from the city of Ostrava (Czech Republic), 6 participants from the city of Pécs (Hungary), 8 participants from the city of Gyomaendrőd (Hungary), 13 participants from the city of Budapest (Hungary), 3 participants from the city of Wrocław (Poland), 3 participants from the city of Łódź (Poland), 2 participants from Warsaw (Poland), 3 participants from the city of Gdańsk (Poland), 8 participants from the city of Gdynia (Poland), 1 participant from the city of Oslo (Norway).

The event took place in Budapest (Hungary), from 8/12/2017 to 10/12/2017.

Skills improvement

The aim of the event was improving the skills useful for youth in the preparation of their school projects. During the meeting, the students could choose to participate in workshops dedicated to various forms of activity: exhibition design, conducting debates, collecting and documenting oral history, conducting probes and social research. At the same time teachers participated in workshops on teaching difficult history and using the design thinking method in planning class programs.

The event involved 73 citizens, including 9 participants from the city of Ostrava (Czech Republic), 5 participants from the city of Pécs (Hungary), 7 participants from the city of Gyomaendrőd (Hungary), 7 participants from the city of Budapest (Hungary), 1 participant from the city of Szeged (Hungary), 3 participants from the city of Wrocław (Poland), 4 participants from the city of Łódź (Poland), 4 participants from Warsaw (Poland), 6 participants from the city of Gdańsk (Poland), 26 participants from the city of Gdynia (Poland), 1 participant from the city of Oslo (Norway).

The event took place in Gdynia and Gdańsk (Poland), from 09/03/2018 to 11/03/2018

Presentation of school projects

The aim of the event was presenting the school projects prepared by youth. As a result of the project, various activities were implemented in schools participating in the program, including series of debates, films, an interview with a witness to history, a board game, school exhibitions and a page on Facebook. The projects were evaluated experts – historians, sociologists and educators – who met with youth and discussed their work with them. The gala was opened by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Poland.

The event involved 103 citizens, including 10 participants from the city of Ostrava (Czech Republic), 7 participants from the city of Pécs (Hungary), 11 participants from the city of Gyomaendrőd (Hungary), 11 participants from the city of Budapest (Hungary), 1 participant from the city of Szeged (Hungary), 11 participants from the city of Wrocław (Poland), 8 participants from the city of Łódź (Poland), 19 participants from the city of Warsaw (Poland), 5 participants from the city of Gdańsk (Poland), 19 participants from the city of Gdynia (Poland), 1 participant from the city of Oslo (Norway).
